Cutting through the Noise
Admit it. You may be an expert, but you're
hardly alone.
It seems like everyone has an expertise these days. Even if your expertise is in a fairly narrow niche, you still have to jump up and down to get any attention.
The frustrating thing is that you know you have something valuable to offer. If you could just get the attention.
Does it ever seem like
others around you seem to get the attention - and the business - while you're struggling to not be some obscure vertical expert?
What's the Difference between You and Them?
The expert market today
trades in authority. If you have it, the business comes to you. Now, that's not to say it's easy to become the authority. But it is possible.
There are many ways to position yourself as the authority, but one of the quickest ways is to
write a book.
Now, you be be saying, "wait just a minute! There are a ton of so-called 'authors' out there. Isn't that a commodity now?"
You'd be surprised. Although it's much easier to publish a book today than it was before, most people still don't do it. And when you do,
doors open up.
That doesn't mean you can put out a bad book. But if you spend your time thinking through a relevant topic for your target market and write a good book on it, you can
leapfrog the throngs of experts just like you who refuse to make an effort.
"But I Could Never Write a Book"
I hear that all the time - especially from people who eventually go on to write their first book. I used to say that too and
I'm awaiting the publication of my 3rd book, Scale, which should be out next month.
The reason you think you can't write a book is because
you haven't before. Without any reference to what goes into writing a book, you think it's impossible. But trust me, many with fewer skills than you have written a book.
You can do it!
You just need a concept, a format, and a set of steps. Follow the steps, and like any other process,
you'll be done.
What Do You Write About?
There are several good formats for experts to write books. I spend time in my blog post,
5 Book Ideas for Consultants, Coaches, and Other Experts, talking about how you can come up with a book format that will create the credibility you are seeking - and deserve.
